To insure proper understanding of each concept and skill, you are still highly involved in the teaching of Level 2. This level continues the use of word problems to teach addition and subtraction with borrowing and carrying (0 - 99), and introduces multiplication, division and fractions. The major algebraic ideas are being developed as your child learns arithmetic. The Student Book offers opportunities to apply and practice the concepts and skills covered in the lessons from Level 2.
Level 2 continues the development of mathematical reasoning while teaching the basic addition and subtraction facts (0 - 20). Computation skills take more of a prominence in this level with the introduction of addition and subtraction (numbers 0 - 99) using borrowing and carrying and the basic multiplication and division facts. Common fractions will also be introduced. Simple conversations are provided for you to lead your children to understand each math concept and computational skill.
Concepts and Skills through Word Problems
The concepts and skills taught in Level 2 will further advance your child's mathematical reasoning:
MEMORIZATION of the BASIC ADDITION and SUBTRACTION FACTS (0 - 20)
PLACE VALUE (ones and tens digits)
ADDTION and SUBTRACTION (with borrowing and carrying with numbers 0 - 99)
INTRODUCTION of the BASIC MULTIPLICATION and DIVISION FACTS
INTROCUTION of COMMON FRACTIONS
The concepts and skills taught in Level 2 are presented in the context of word problems. Approximately 50% of the problems in Level 2 are word problems. Using word problems provide your chilren with opportunities to apply their learning to real life. This approach to learning basic skills enhances your children's reasoning abilities.
